At Asquith we take pride in providing nutritious and wholesome food for all our children
The food our children eat affects every aspect of their lives: their mood, behaviour, growth, even their ability to concentrate. Good nutrition is vital to a child's health from building strong bones and teeth to the healthy development of internal organs and general growth.
From a healthy eating point of view, we give balance to our menus by carefully planning the nutritional content using the guidelines laid down by the Caroline Walker Trust and the Food Standards Agency.
Children are encouraged to eat vegetables and fresh fruit every day and their taste buds are stimulated with recipes such as Chicken and Vegetable Fricassee with Rice, and Lamb Moroccan-style.
We usually offer the children a hot lunchtime meal and a lighter hot or cold tea. There is also a vegetarian dish served each day at every nursery. Our staff eat with the children in small family groups to enable each child to gain those valuable interpersonal and social skills at an early age in their lives and gives them an enjoyable experience at mealtimes.
Asquith provides nutritious and wholesome food to all of our nurseries, catering for all tastes and diets. Our recipes and menus were originally compiled in 2006 by Annabel Karmel MBE, the leading expert and best-selling author of children’s food and nutrition, and our Catering Team.
The food we prepare needs to look good and taste even better; it is no use to anyone if the children don't want to eat it! New recipes are always tried and tested at the nurseries before adding them to the menus. If the children don't like a particular meal, we will alter or remove the recipe and replace with another more suitable.
Menus and recipes are available at all of our nurseries so that parents can read and identify the ingredients used. We even issue recipe cards from time to time, so that you can make our meals at home.
examples of our nursery menus
All of our stand-alone nurseries have a dedicated professional kitchen team who are well trained in producing the high standards of food required, using fresh ingredients where possible.
Four of our West London sites who do not have kitchen facilities are supplied by a central kitchen where the food is cooked fresh daily to our recipes and menus. The food is then delivered to nursery hot and served immediately to the children.
Some of our David Lloyd nurseries have an Asquith trained cook who prepares the food in the David Lloyd kitchen. Here we serve our own range of pre-prepared meals devised in conjunction with Annabel Karmel and Creative Foods (Brakes).
At David Lloyd nurseries that do not have an Asquith cook, Annabel Karmel's 'Eat Fussy' range of meals is on the menu. Both these meal ranges are of the same exceptional standard as those produced in our stand-alone nurseries - additive free, low in salt, safe, traceable, nutritious and delicious - and are manufactured under extremely strict guidelines.
Babies in our care are fed with the breast milk or formula milk provided by their parents. Their mealtimes are dictated by their routine at home, and they are cuddled while they are fed, just as they would be at home.
Weaning onto solid foods is always done in consultation with the parents. We feed freshly pureed food, and only introduce new ingredients once you have tried them safely at home. We tell you what your child has eaten, and how much, again, keeping to the routine they have at home.
Our nurseries can cater for dietary preferences such as vegetarian, Halal and Kosher, and also for children with food allergies and intolerances.
