In the spacious nursery room, young children investigate all the areas of the education curriculum. In the home corner, they express their imaginations through role-play and dressing up.

In the book corner, they start acquiring listening and reading skills and the messy area lets them develop their creativity.

A wide range of mark-making activities will encourage the children to begin ascribing meaning to marks as well as using hand-eye co-ordination and fine manipulative skills. They take part in extra curricular activities such as French, music and drama as part of our provision of childcare in Balham.

We are also delighted that our local community is keen to support the children's learning, local Vets, Doctors, Dentists and Fire Service are just some of our recent visitors who have come in to talk to us all.

In our pre-school room, staff encourage the children to take the lead and constantly ask their opinions about activities.

There is a more structured approach as they are being prepared for school with group activities such as 'Show & Tell' with the letter of the week. The room has an exciting touch-screen computer and an interactive SMART board for science, maths and literacy.

Arts craft, music and drama take place weekly, as do French lessons to encourage the children to learn about other languages and cultures. Boogie Mites, music and movement sessions support the teaching of letters and sounds take place weekly.

We encourage independence in pre-school by allowing the children to put on their coats and shoes by themselves, help with food preparation, let them serve themselves and encourage them to resolve any issues they may come across.

Having visited many nurseries during our selection process, Balham Day nursery stood out to us immediately. Your child development programme and your ways of documenting this were very well established, the rooms were very well equipped and the staff were very welcoming and chatty, our gut feeling from this experience was very positive.

Ida has been with you now for over 3 months and we very much feel we were right to go with our gut instinct! She is so happy there and that has made the transition into the next phase of our family life immeasurably easier and enjoyable for all of us.

Initially, I did feel the settling in process seemed like a long one but that gradual build up of time in the nursery eased Ida perfectly into life away from her mummy. As a result, she felt comfortable and at ease being in the baby room full time, 5 days a week.

I really look forward to collecting Ida at the end of the day, to sit with her for a short while, watching her interact with the other children and staff, hearing the stories of things that happened that day and seeing the results of their crafts and activities. The staff could not be more loving and caring of Ida. They have given Robin and I great peace of mind in our decision to put Ida into nursery through their warmth and professionalism.

Thanks for looking after our precious bundle so well, long may it continue.

I am thankful every day for the choice I made in sending my son Ellis to Balham Day Nursery. He is growing into a beautiful, talkative, funny & confident little boy and I have the staff (his second mum’s as I call them!) and management of the nursery to thank for their huge part in that. The care, love and guidance that they so obviously show him has made my return to work a lot more enjoyable – and most importantly he LOVES it and just makes our time together ever more precious!
Melinda - June 2014

My son has been attending Balham Day Nursery for a number of years now and how he has blossomed, the staff and nursery have provided him a safe and nurturing environment, where he is encouraged to thrive and develop. The rooms are spacious and very colourful, I love all the pictures and children's artwork everywhere, they are always so proud of their achievements! The children are kept active with a range of fun and educational activities, the Early Years Foundation Stage is key to each child's development and the staff have encompassed the play to learn ethos in their everyday schedules for the children. The nursery has a fantastic new garden which the kids absolutely love, parents are invited throughout the year to enjoy these facilities at sports days, Christmas carols and the open days. The nursery also has an onsite chef and kitchen where the kids are provided with nutritional meals, where they are introduced to and encouraged to try new tastes, with the opportunity to sit and eat together at mealtimes. Well done Balham Day Nursery and thank you for all your hard work!
Aleacha - June 2014

Florence has been very happy at Balham Day Nursery. She joined just after her first birthday in the baby room. She settled quickly and was really happy there with Daisy as her key worker until she moved to the Nursery Room. She still waves and calls out to Daisy even now! Her move to the Nursery room was handled well and she is also content there. The staff are kind, helpful and make parents and children feel welcome. Florence loves the food, the playground, the staff and her friends. The nursery is always flexible, often accommodating extra days and additional childcare for us at short notice. It has been a great place to start Florence's childcare and schooling journey and, as a family, we couldn't have done without it in the last year.
