The preschool room at Springfields Pre-School & Day Nursery

The preschool room presents the extension of children's development from the two nursery rooms and expands and focusses on supporting children to become school ready.

Our preschool room has more defined areas and set our in more of a classroom style to support children in their school preparation with activities that are relevant, meaningful, motivating and interesting.

We offer a play-based foundation which supports all aspects of children’s development. Through play, children learn by having practical, hands-on, opportunities to experience real-life situations, make choices and have ownership over their actions and reactions including aiding children to risk assess and make their own choices. The room operates a 'rolling' snack time so that the children have access to fruit and water throughout the morning and afternoon, and there is a different approach to encourage children's independence throughout meal times. Children are actively encouraged to lay the table for their friends at lunch time and at breakfast and tea times they scrape their own plates and separate their waste food and cutlery into different sections which are then cleared away by the staff.

Our qualified teacher Miss Amy, is based within the preschool room and actively includes teaching time in the preschool daily routine. This part of the day is held in our 'Learning room' which is used for children to focus and develop their concentration skills. It is a 15-20 minute daily activity that prepares children ready for lessons at school.

The outdoor spaces at Springfields Pre-School & Day Nursery

We’re incredibly proud of our garden at our Lichfield children's day nursery. Our children just love exploring the great outdoors.

There’s so much to do, learn from and discover, whatever the weather. Our fabulous Stage area is perfect for story time and role-play, while the road track has children zooming around and having fun. The tailor made climbing wall is fantastic for encouraging children to try new things, work together and grow in confidence, and we have a beautiful climbing frame and forestry area too.

Our large sandpit has recently been redeveloped allowing children to actively play and explore using their senses to assess the world around them.

The Toddler area is covered with Astroturf, which means that the children can access the outdoor area in all weathers and is a much safer surface for the children to crawl and play on.

Helen Marquise, Nursery Manager
Helen joined Springfields Nursery in 1992 as a student whilst completing National B-Tec, gaining a full-time position in June 1994 as Nursery Nurse. After a year she left for 8 months to become a Nanny and gain experience in a different job role, however, decided that Springfields and Nursery Nursing was what she wanted to do. Helen came back to Springfields in October 1995 and worked her way up, becoming Nursery Manager in 2001.

Sam Badger, Assistant Manager
Sam began her career with Asquith as a member of our cover/supply team in 2008. Her talent for childcare was quickly identified and she was employed as a full-time nursery nurse shortly after starting. Sam settled in very quickly and worked her way up the ladder from Room Leader to Assistant Manager. During her first few months employed at Springfields, Sam has successfully achieved her Early Years Professional Status.

Our Nursery Cooks at our Lichfield children's day nursery:

Julie Spilsbury, Nursery Cook
"I have worked within the nursery for over 28 years having originally started at our Rockland’s premises. I began as an Assistant Cook where I learnt and developed my basic and more complex skills as a Nursery cook. Around twelve months later I then became a top chef taking on the main responsibilities of cooking for all of the nursery children.

Beverley Kelly, Nursery Cook
"I have worked at Springfield’s for over 15 years watching the nursery grow in size and numbers over time. I began working with just one other member of staff forming a great bond and learning how to work as a pair to complete the day to day tasks within the kitchen. Whilst being with Asquith I have been given the opportunity to do a multitude of training courses including first aid and food hygiene. These training courses have helped to expand my abilities and increase my confidence within the nursery setting."

Nursery rides to support the British Heart Foundation

At Springfields nursery we decided that it would be a great challenge for staff, parents and children to ride their way to 1000 miles within a working week to raise £1000 for the British Heart Foundation. We encourage children to keep active and thought that staff and parents could all join in to show them that keeping fit can be fun!
