The baby room at Harpenden Pre-School & Nursery
We have two baby rooms, our first baby room can hold up to 6 babies and our newly extended top floor baby room can now hold 15 babies. This room also consists of a cosy sensory area, which offers a calming environment for the babies to enjoy while they explore different lights, sounds, smells and sensory treasure baskets. At Harpenden Pre-School and nursery we follow each child’s individual routine and work closely with parents to ensure that the transition from home to nursery goes smoothly.
Both our baby rooms are bright and airy and offer lots of fun, stimulating and age appropriate activities. The babies are free to explore the room and all the resources available, which encourages all areas of development, practically their social skills. The babies are encouraged and assisted with walking when they feel confident enough and have fun in the garden digging in the sand pit.
The babies thrive as they learn through heuristic play which consists of offering different kinds of ‘real life’ objects and receptacles with which the babies can play freely without adult intervention.
The staff support the babies as they learn through play using props, songs and action rhymes.

The children have access to painting and messy play activities such as cornflour, baked beans, shaving foam and sticking. The children enjoy music and movement activities and staff support story telling and imagination with the use of props and puppets, both inside and out in the nursery garden. Our younger toddler room has a large climbing frame and slide with steps, providing the children with opportunities to develop their physical skills.

Testimonials about Harpenden Pre-School & Nursery
From the first moment we stepped into Asquith nursery we felt at ease with their welcoming nature and fun spirit!
The staff demonstrated a very personable approach to our son when he first started at 12 months old and clearly understood his needs, likes and dislikes early on to ensure his settling-in period went as smooth as possible (the anxious time for any parent).
Since then, we have noticed the most remarkable development in him throughout the year and take so much pride and joy in reading his daily and developmental reports and discussing his day. His interests, driven by his individual personality is enhanced by them recognising these skills personal to him, such as drawing and looking at books. We love the artwork that gets brought home!
The Asquith team at Harpenden have always been so friendly and lovely which goes beyond our sons key worker. He even talks about the chef, clearly a fan when his favourite puddings are served!
The whole team all seem to take such an interest in all the children. He is so lucky to go to such a fantastic nursery!

A HUGE thank you for the care and attention you have given our Daughter in her time at the nursery. She has been so happy. Many times we have come to collect her and have found one of her carers playing happily with her. It is a credit to your excellent staff that they go beyond simply doing their job because they enjoy spending time with the children. As a parent it makes me so happy to see others give so much care to our child. Many, many thanks.

Please pass on my thanks to the girls in Babies 1 for Dexter’s Christmas present and the lovely artwork he came home with yesterday, I especially love the calendar. The girls have been amazing with Dexter, he has developed so much already in just three months and I can’t wait to see him grow further.
