For childcare in Longfield and nursery services in the Longfield area of Kent

Hickory House Pre-School & Day Nursery is a beautiful children's nursery located in Longfield. We are the only nursery in Kent to have been rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in four consecutive inspections, the latest in August 2016.

We are pleased to announce that we are currently undergoing an £80,000 investment to create a stunning, new adventure garden, which will include a baby tipi, up and under bridge with mirrored sides, stage area and soft Astro Turf for the little ones to explore.   For our older children, there will be a four turret climbing frame, race track for trikes, nature and planting area (including a bug hotel and bird houses), water feature, stage area, sand pit and much more!

Never forgetting that the nursery is ‘for the children’ it is important that the children are consulted and given hands-on involvement on a day-to-day basis.

We understand that a successful nursery is built on the experience of motivated, happy staff and we realise the importance of their development. By combining good management skills, staff that work as a team and continuous training, we aim to achieve a reputation of excellence.

We strive to provide nursery care that involves parents and if we can go the extra mile, we do. However small the issue, to ease the difficulties of leaving a child in the care of others, we will work to reassure that your child is in safe hands.

The baby room at Hickory House Pre-School & Day Nursery

The specially designed baby room caters for crawling or just walking babies with a wide selection of age-specific resources to stimulate sensory and exploratory development. The warm and calming décor supports the babies in feeling settled and secure.

This spacious and naturally lit room has been created to aid children's physical development and allow them room to move and grow. The room is furnished with Community Playthings, specialised and handmade, wooden furniture, equipment and play resources, which support the babies in their holistic development. Until around 6 months old, your baby’s vision is still developing, they are unable to distinguish between colours easily. This is why we have a black, white and red area providing bold extremes of colour that captivates their attention, to encourage and support their visual development.

The baby room has direct access to a secure garden area, which supports free flow play. The garden area opens out into the main nursery garden, which allows the babies to observe the older child at play and siblings to see each other during the nursery day.

The cosy area creates a calm and peaceful environment, giving the babies one-to-one quiet time with their key person. This area is often used for bottle feeding and story time. The babies also experience a range of treasure baskets and heuristic play, encouraged and guided by our qualified practitioners. Our highly qualified practitioners are trained to create a home environment within the nursery environment ensuring the babies feel safe and secure. Babies benefit from a very special, separate sleep room that ensures they get a restful and peaceful sleep as they follow their routine from home.
